Information & Knowledge Management - Human Information Management

  • Would you like to assess unforeseen consequences of information expansion and use?
  • Can better information sharing improve your return on investment (ROI)?
  • Will coercing your employees to simplify information expand knowledge and information sharing processes or, will changing your IT system modify your company’s information sharing culture?

Information sharing evolves in many directions within a corporation or agency and takes on multiple meanings. IT specialists are drawn to common definitions of terms like customer or product, however most information does not conform to such strict boundaries.

A human-centered approach to information calls for preserving the rich complexity we prefer in our information menu.

Most people do not share information easily however information sharing is one of the fundamental assumptions in planning an IT system. Changing an IT system will not generally change a company’s information culture.

Technology cannot transform a corporation. Changing a company’s information culture requires altering the basic behaviors, attitudes, values, management expectations, and incentives that relate to information. Changing the technology only reinforces existing behavior. Yet in most companies, many managers still believe that once the technology is in place, the appropriate information-sharing behavior will follow.

A new tool that maps human behavior and tests how such systems could be used would be an invaluable asset in information sharing. TINMORE INSTITUTE has that tool. The ability to map human behavior and test its application to various business processes and IT systems coupled with an information sharing environment (ISE) can greatly improve the coupling of IT systems for improved information sharing within and across firms. Our tools and technology can help determine whether instituting new technologies or implementing a program of cultural change is the best approach.
